Serious Strap-On

Here’s a series of hips and twisting poses you can do with a strap ~ takes only 15 mins to do:

Ardha Matsyendrasana – Half Spinal Twist

If the left leg is over the right, loop your strap around the left ankle, twist to your left and grab a hold of the strap around the back with your left hand. Keep the left foot and hip rooted to the ground as you continue to twist. Do other side.

Gomukasana w/twist – Cow-face Pose

Stay in the same position, just walk the left foot more over until the knees are stacked, your legs from the front should look like a cow’s face. Take your right hand and place it on the left knee as you twist. Same rules as above apply.

Supta Padangusthasana – Reclined Big Toe Pose

Lying on the back, lift left leg up to 90 degrees. Loop the strap around the ball of the foot and allow the strap to be an extension of your right arm. With a straight right arm, begin to take the foot across the body towards the right shoulder as you anchor the left hip down with your left hand. Right knee can be bent. Pose can be taken into a twist if you decide to lower the left leg to the right.

Ananda Balasana – Blissful (Happy) Baby

Lying on the back still, bring knees to armpits and stack feet over knees. Place your left foot about a 3rd up the strap and your right foot 2-3rds up the strap and hold the strap with your hands fairly close to the feet (depending on flexibility). Keep the tail bone and shoulders rooted so there’s a small arch in the lower back, enough to fit half a large mango underneath. Start to draw knees and feet down towards the ground.
